Many approaches to therapy focus on reducing what feels uncomfortable. At Gentry Psychiatric, the work is designed to go further toward developing a clear understanding of what is driving your experience, so that change is meaningful and lasting.
Sessions are collaborative and individualized. There is no predetermined script or one-size-fits-all framework. Each session is guided by your experiences, your patterns, and what feels most important to address, allowing the work to unfold with depth and intention over time.
Talk therapy at this practice is insight-oriented, with a focus on understanding the deeper patterns, relationships, and experiences that shape how you think, feel, and respond, not just what is happening on the surface.
This work unfolds over time. It involves curiosity, honesty, and a willingness to engage with and embrace these nuanced complexities, rather than avoiding them. It is this investment that makes meaningful, lasting change possible.
Initial evaluations are 60 to 75 minutes, allowing for a thorough and thoughtful understanding of each patient. Follow-up sessions are 50 minutes, providing the time necessary for depth and continuity in the work.
Sessions are available in person in Carmel-by-the-Sea and via telepsychiatry throughout California. Frequency is determined collaboratively based on each patient’s needs and stage of treatment, with many beginning on a weekly or bi-weekly schedule.
For many patients, talk therapy is one component of a broader treatment approach. It may be integrated with medication management, as well as comprehensive medical and neurocognitive evaluation, depending on the clinical picture.
Care is guided by the individual, with the goal of developing the right combination of treatment rather than applying a predetermined approach.
Care begins with a brief 15-minute consultation. This initial conversation allows for a thoughtful discussion of your needs and helps determine whether the practice is the right fit.
Screening calls are required prior to scheduling an initial evaluation. A fee applies for the screening call. Scheduling a screening call does not guarantee acceptance as a patient.
