About Dr. Gentry

Dr. Gentry completed both his undergraduate and medical education at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island. Acceptance through the Program in Liberal Medical Education (PLME), the highly selective pathway that grants early acceptance to both undergraduate and medical school. The program emphasizes a broad, interdisciplinary foundation in medicine, fostering an approach to care that values integration across disciplines and collaboration within complex systems.
During his undergraduate studies, he earned a Bachelor of Science in Psychology with focused study in both Cognitive Science and Child Development. His early interest in Cognitive Science earned him an academic research grant, supporting original work that ultimately led to publication in a scholarly journal.
He went on to earn his degree as a Doctor of Medicine from the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University, where his training continued to emphasize a multidisciplinary and humanistic approach to patient care.
During Residency, Dr. Gentry engaged in both clinical and academic endeavors that shaped his later interest in the intersection of Psychiatry, systems of care, and the broader context in which Psychiatric treatment is delivered.
Following his training, Dr. Gentry spent nearly a decade practicing in complex hospital-based and forensic psychiatric settings, developing a clinical perspective shaped by both frontline patient care and physician leadership. During this time, he served as Medical Director of Psychiatry and Behavioral Health within major healthcare systems in California, where he oversaw a range of psychiatric services and contributed to the development and operation of multidisciplinary programs.
In these roles, his work extended beyond direct patient care to include collaboration with physicians, hospital leadership, and allied health professionals, with a focus on maintaining high standards of clinical care within large and often resource-constrained systems. His experience across inpatient, emergency, and consultative settings provided exposure to a wide range of psychiatric presentations, including patients with significant clinical complexity.
Earlier in his career, he also worked in forensic and public-sector settings, providing psychiatric care within systems responsible for underserved and vulnerable populations. This work further informed his understanding of access, continuity, and the broader systems that shape how psychiatric care is delivered.
Gentry Psychiatric reflects the evolution of this experience into a more focused model of care that allows for greater time, attention, and precision in the treatment of each individual patient.
Dr. Gentry has been engaged in academic, clinical, and hospital-based service throughout his training and career, including research, publication, Grand Rounds presentations, and the education and mentorship of medical students and residents. His early work in cognitive science and psychiatry contributed to a broader understanding of the biological and behavioral foundations of mental health.
This commitment has continued through his roles in hospital-based psychiatry, where he has contributed to physician education, psychiatric program development, and interdisciplinary clinical leadership.
He has also served on the Physician Well-Being Committee, supporting physicians in distress, and the Bio-Ethics Committee, helping address complex medical, ethical, and legal patient care matters. His contributions have been recognized across multiple stages of his career, from teaching distinctions during residency to later recognition for developing and leading psychiatric programs acknowledged for excellence in clinical practice.
Gentry Psychiatric was designed to move beyond the structural limitations often found in healthcare. A practice built to provide a more intentional, thoughtful, and human approach. Care is purposeful, relationships are continuously fostered, and treatment reflects a true understanding of the individual.
